CAREER CONNECT

These sessions provide training for MIT spouses and partners who are looking for work or professional development opportunities during their time at MIT.

You are welcome to participate no matter where you are in the job search process. We think our sessions will be especially beneficial to anyone who is currently searching for a job in the United States for the first time, or who is changing careers.

If a session fills, we’ll allow registration at the door to fill any unclaimed seats.

SPEAKERS

Jennifer Recklet Tassi, Program Manager of MIT spouses&partners

Jennifer’s interests include cultural adjustment and families, languages, and community building. As the program manager, Jennifer oversees daily operations and manages the administrative, strategic, and financial aspects of MIT spouses&partners. She is also the primary contact person for members, providing direct support to the members by answering individual questions and helping them plan activities and projects. She collaborates with other offices and programs at MIT to build support for spouses and partners, and she also educates MIT administrators about the specific challenges and issues facing our members. Jennifer also manages the MIT Language Conversation Exchange and is the site administrator for MIT FamilyNet, an online community for MIT families.

Bori Stoyanova, PHR

Bori is a human resource professional with over ten years of progressive HR experience in industry and academia. Currently, she is Human Resource Administrator in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at MIT. Prior to that she was Staffing Specialist in MIT Human Resources where she supported MIT Departments, Labs, and Centers with job searches, training needs, and succession planning. Prior to MIT, Bori was the on-site manager of a contingent employment group at Harvard University and an HR generalist at CIGNA Healthcare. Bori is a certified professional in Human Resources, has a Master’s degree in English and American studies, and a post graduate certificate in Human Resource Management from Harvard University.

Lily Zhang, Assistant Director, Career Counseling & Training

Lily manages GECD’s drop-in appointments and meets with a range of MIT students from undergraduates to PhDs. She also advises students interested in applying to law school, business school, and graduate school. She holds an M.Ed. from the University of Massachusetts and a B.A. from Tufts University.

Scott Murray, Communications Specialist & Career Advisor

Scott writes and edits content for GECD's website and social media, and manages MIT's Go Global website. He advises GECD staff on marketing and communications strategy, and provides career advising to undergraduate and graduate students. He has an interdisciplinary Master's from NYU and an MA in English from UMass Boston.

Jake Livengood

Jake Livengood has worked in higher education since 2002 and provides career counseling with PhD students at MIT Global Education and Career Development. He is also a graduate of the Improv Asylum Training Center in the North End of Boston. With the last name "Livengood," this career path is quite fitting. Rebecca Thorndike-Breeze

Rebecca Thorndike-Breeze is a Lecturer for both the Writing and Communication Center and Writing, Rhetoric, and Professional Communication. She earned her Ph.D. in English at Northeastern University. When she isn't teaching Writing and Communication at MIT, she researches and writes about realist and modernist fiction, as well as comics and graphic novels.

Tad Mayer

Tad Mayer is president of Career Negotiations and an experienced coach,trainer, and speaker. As a career coach, he has written a book with two co-authors: Own the Job Hunt due out in fall 2017. Tad uses the OJH model to create relief, hope, direction, and results in the form of fulfilling career trajectories for people new to the workforce and frustrated professionals feeling stuck in their careers. As an adjunct professor, Tad has taught negotiation courses at the D’Amore-McKim School of Business at Northeastern University. Tad has been quoted in online venues like USNews and his writing has been featured in books such as Money Talks: 100 Strategies to Master Tricky Conversations about Money. Tad has been Manager of Domestic Pricing at Northwest Airlines, Director of Partner Marketing at Sheraton Hotels, and Director of Commercial and Corporate Programs at Mediation Works Incorporated. He has an MBA from The Tuck School at Dartmouth College, and a BS in Communication Studies from Northwestern University.
